The product created through
the collaboration between
Tan Yamanouchi and Japan’s Petline Co., Ltd.

We are pleased to unveil “A Cat Tree Wall by 懐石 (KAISEKI)“, the latest product created through a collaboration between architect Tan Yamanouchi and Petline Co., Ltd., one of Japan’s leading pet food companies.

Designed with the concept of “a cat tree where both cats and people can share,” this product exists at the intersection of furniture and architecture.

Message from Architect Tan Yamanouchi in Petline’s Official Press Release:

“When Petline approached me for this collaboration, I thought it would be wonderful to create a cat tower that both cats and humans could use together. My goal was to balance the architectural perspective with a unique creative approach, while ensuring that the design resonates harmoniously with the message of the KAISEKI brand.

The result, “A Cat Tree Wall by 懐石 (KAISEKI)”, is a product that sits between furniture and architecture, designed with delicate spatial relationships to enhance the sense of joy and togetherness between cats and their owners.

Though it appears simple, the internal structure is highly sophisticated, achieving both durability and lightweight construction. The layered cardboard structure is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans, and special attention has been given to the texture and quality of the materials.

This design allows cats to naturally adapt and enjoy their playtime while also enabling owners to share and appreciate those moments together. I hope that everyone who experiences this piece will cherish the time and space shared with their beloved feline companions.”

“A Cat Tree Wall by 懐石 (KAISEKI)”
— A cat tree where both cats and people can share

Based on the idea of “a cat tree where both cats and people can share,” the design of A Cat Tree Wall by 懐石 (KAISEKI) strived to be unprecedented and unique, redefining the notion of the existing cat tree. Lying somewhere between furniture and architecture, the product celebrates the beauty of the co-existence of cats and people.
It is made from a special reinforced-type cardboard developed in Japan. In consideration of sustainable beauty, the structure is crafted without the use of screws, carefully layered one piece at a time by the hands of skilled craftsmen, and with the expertise of engineers specializing in cardboard.
This project, A Cat Tree Wall by 懐石 (KAISEKI), is the outcome of a happy collaboration between Petline, a renowned Japanese pet food company, and architect Tan Yamanouchi. By bringing together Japanese craftsmanship and advanced engineering, a unique product full of playfulness was realized to express the joy of cats and people living side by side.
